Gachedili (Georgian: გაჭედილი) is a village located in the Martvili municipality of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region in Georgia.Gachedili is situated on the right side of the river Abasha. At an altitude of 240 meters. It is 8 kilometers to Martvili from Gachedili and 48 kilometers to Senaki. According to the data of 2002, 573 people live in the village. Gachedili is under Chkondidi Diocese. Gachedili's Canyon is located on the river Abasha. Canyon's 2400 m. long and - 20–40 m. deep. In the middle of Canyon there is a 12 m high waterfall. Canyon is known for fossilized bones of animals, which lived 75 million years ago, and it makes the canyon the world's third discovery, in which the remains of prehistoric animals was founded. This discovery was done in July 2010, by Ilia State University's International Institute of Earth Sciences with the help of graduate students.In August Ilia State University organized Field Research Expedition in which paleontologists Vyacheslav Chkhikvadze and Vasil Gabunia took part. After this expedition it was announced that dinosaur footprints was founded in Abasha river's gorge.On October 4, 2010 Gachedili's Canyon was declared as a protected area. In 2011 Ilia state university organized several number of re-exploration expeditions. In some caves were founded oldest human remains, their bones and crumbs. In addition, they found the bones of extinct species of animals, including cave bear and Bisson. One of the participants of expeditions Vasil gabunia says that discovered footprints looks like dinosaur's, although he admits that it is difficult to say confidently, until they make research of founded materials.
One of the tallest waterfall of Georgia – Kinchkha together with another water abundant waterfall nearby, Okatse Canyon natural monument (just a few km from Kinchkha in Gordi village) with recently built high quality tourist infrastructure – stairs, footpaths offering magnificent views to the canyon and its surroundings make a nice day out in the nature especially in spring when water levels are high and nature is in blossom with flowers all around and smell of yellow azalea and with still snowed Askhi Pleatau ; Also in summer when you can swim, relax or just find a really cool place for picnic and to taste some homemade Georgian wine with locals.
